HellasQCI Winter School (Training Workshop) November 26-28, 2025 The HellasQCI Winter School – Training Workshop took place on 26–28 November 2025 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, bringing together students, researchers, public authorities, and industry representatives for a three-day capacity-building programme dedicated to quantum-secure communications. Organised under the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) and held under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, the event forms part of Greece’s national quantum communication within the EuroQCI initiative and is co-funded by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme. Coordinated by GRNET — with the support of the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post — the programme combined high-level policy discussions, theoretical lectures, and hands-on laboratory sessions on Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and optical and satellite quantum communication technologies, engaging more than 250 participants and 40 expert speakers from 15 countries and contributing to Greece’s and Europe’s readiness for the next phase of EuroQCI deployments. |

Digital Economy Forum 2025: From Vision to Impact December 15, 2025 On 15 December 2025, Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou, Senior Project Manager at GRNET and Coordinator of the HellasQCI project, participated in Session II of the Digital Economy Forum 2025, titled “Defence, Space & Cybersecurity – New Challenges and Opportunities.” The session brought together senior representatives from government, industry, and the research community, including Konstantinos Karantzalos, Secretary General of Telecommunications and Post; Michail Bletsas, Governor of the National Cybersecurity Authority; Pantelis Tzortzakis, CEO of the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation; Dimitris Vasilopoulos, General Manager of the Netcompany Public Sector Unit; and Antony Mavromichalis, Akamai Business Unit Director at ATCOM, to examine the evolving landscape for Greek IT companies in defence technologies, space applications, and cybersecurity. During the discussion, Dr. Papastamatiou underlined the strategic role of quantum communications for Greece and Europe, emphasising their importance for next-generation cybersecurity, their integration within the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI), and their contribution to digital sovereignty, resilience, and the protection of critical infrastructures. |

The training was organised and delivered jointly by GRNET (the HellasQCI coordinator) and NKUA, as part of the project’s commitment to building national capacity and operational readiness in quantum-secure communications. |

Greece hosted CEPT Conference - Showcasing the national quantum communication infrastructure HellasQCI September 29 - October 3, 2025 Greece proudly hosted the CEPT Conference in 2025, bringing together leading representatives from European administrations, regulatory authorities, telecommunications experts, and international organisations. As part of the conference’s strategic focus on secure communications and emerging technologies, Greece presented its achievements in national quantum-secure infrastructure, spotlighting the progress of HellasQCI — the country’s flagship Quantum Communication Infrastructure project. On the sidelines of the CEPT Conference, high-level officials from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), including Mr. Seizo Onoe, Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB); Ms. Cristina Bueti, ITU’s Focal Point for Smart Sustainable Cities and AI-driven Virtual Worlds; and Mr. Jaroslaw K. Ponder, Head of the ITU Office for Europe, visited the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of NKUA and the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory of NTUA, within the framework of the HellasQCI project. |
