QCI Days Athens 2025 April 28-30, 2025 The National Quantum Communication Infrastructures (NatQCIs) projects of Greece (HellasQCI), Spain (EuroQCI Spain), and Austria (QCI-CAT) invite you to an engaging event in Athens, Europe’s historical capital. Organized by GRNET (HellasQCI coordinator), AIT Austrian Institute of Technology (QCI-CAT coordinator) and UPM – The Technical University of Madrid (EuroQCI Spain coordinator), and held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance, this event will showcase advancements in quantum communication technologies, including live demonstration of quantum-secure communication technologies and related use-cases from National Quantum Communication Infrastractures.

Milestone: Arrival of Key Quantum Communication Equipment for the HellasQCI testbeds and QKD backbone networks The HellasQCI/GRNET Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) devices, and Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors (SNSPDs) have started arriving at the HellasQCI consortium, marking a significant milestone for the project. This state-of-the-art quantum communication equipment establishes a powerful testbed for researchers, academia, and industry, equipping them with the tools and opportunities to explore, experiment with, and integrate emerging quantum communication technologies into real-world applications. This cutting-edge infrastructure will play a pivotal role in the development and testing of advanced use cases, which are currently in preparation. Together with the delivery of the fiber infrastructure next year, this equipment will be used to form the experimental QKD backbone networks of the HellasQCI Infrastructure in Greece. |

ThinkQuantum and ID Quantique complete end-users’ and IT experts’ training for the HellasQI consortium October 1-2, 2024 ThinkQuantum and ID Quantique conducted two a trainings for the HellasQCI project consortium. ThnikQuantum training took place on 18-19 September 2024, and ID Quantique followed with a training on 1-2 October 2024. Both sessions provided essential theoretical and practical guidance on deploying and using their QKD devices within the HellasQCI project. HellasQCI at the ETWG Workshop in Brussels November 26-28, 2024 HellasQCI attended the EuroQCI Thematic Working Group Workshop on 26-28 November 2024 in Brussels to explore the progress of the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI). Organized by PETRUS and hosted by Deutsche Telekom Global Business Belgium, the event gathered stakeholders from the European Commission, Member States, and related projects. During the ETWG Workshop, HellasQCI representatives Sofia Papathanasopoulou, Head of Broadband Unit, General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post, Ministry of Digital Governance, Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou, GRNET, HellasQCI project coordinator and Ass. Professor George T. Kanellos, NKUA, HellasQCI Technical Coordinator, participated in discussions across the several thematic axes of the ETWG such as: Roadmap, Architecture, Interoperability and Use Cases.
The active participation of the HellasQCI project team in these discussions is crucial in fostering strategic partnerships with all relevant stakeholders and promoting cross-border National QCI collaboration. |

The event facilitated valuable exchanges between GRNET, HellasQCI, and Danish QCI, providing insights into Quantum Key Distribution for enterprises and governments. It also promoted cross-border collaboration on building secure quantum networks and the EuroQCI deployment. |

He also attended the RoNaQCI Consultative Board meeting during the event. The workshop began with welcoming addresses from distinguished figures, including the Mayor of Iași, Mr. Mihai Chirica, the Rector of the Technical University of Iași, Prof. Dan Cașcaval, and the Rector of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, Prof. Liviu George Maha, along with Mr. Vasile Asandei, Director of the North-East Regional Development Agency. The gathering provided a platform for advancing discussions on quantum communication infrastructure. |

HellasQCI at the Quantum Communications Event in Dublin July 1-3 2024 Dr. Ilias Papastamatiou, along with Prof. George Kanellos and Dr. Homer Papadopoulos, represented HellasQCI at a major conference hosted by the Ireland Quantum Communications Infrastructure (IrelandQCI) project from July 1st to July 3rd, 2024, in Dublin. Held at the Camden Court Hotel, the event brought together over 150 participants daily, including quantum technology specialists, industry leaders, and academics from across Europe. The conference emphasized the future of quantum communication, the development of secure infrastructures, and the importance of European collaboration. Ireland’s Minister of State for the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications, Mr. Ossian Smyth, participated in discussions with stakeholders, including representatives from the European Commission and the European Space Agency. The HellasQCI team contributed insights, shared best practices, and engaged with other national and international initiatives to advance quantum communication technology. |
